FaithSpring’s 40-day Lent Challenge 2019
Day 11, Saturday, March 16:No Harmful Entertainment
Looking for an easy commitment to make during Lent? This is exactly what you’re seeking: A completely, self-defined sacrifice that lasts for only one day. Today’s challenge is to avoid harmful entertainment of any kind. You might be asking for a definition of harmful entertainment, but this challenge is completely up to you. Whether it’s an activity, event, television, film, music, or something else, if you believe that it potentially causes you harm in some manner, avoid it for 24-hours.
The purpose of today’s challenge is not to prohibit ourselves from our favorite form of leisure. Rather, it is designed to make us think more carefully about the entertainment we enjoy, viewing it from a perspective of mental, physical, and spiritual health. Have we justified harmful entertainment? Have we discounted other ways to relax because they’re not exciting enough?
Today, take some time to reflect on the entertainment you enjoy. Is it helpful to you? If it helps you, then no worries and proceed ahead! But if it potentially causes you harm in some manner, take a break from it today.
Honor God today with only good stuff!
“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise” (Philippians 4:8, NLT).
